FAQ
Purple Urkle: frequently asked questions
Short answers to the questions people search most about Purple Urkle, each with its sources.
Is Purple Urkle indica or sativa?
An indica: Leafly classifies it as one, AllBud lists 70% indica, and several seed versions are sold as 80% indica.1,2,3
What strain is Purple Urkle?
A California indica, usually described as a selected phenotype of Mendocino Purps and dated to the late 1980s.1,2,4
How much THC is in Purple Urkle?
The median is 19.00% across only 35 state lab tests, a small sample; half of all results fall between 15.98% and 22.42%.5
Is Purple Urkle strong?
Its lab results sit toward the lower end of the strains we track: 21 of the other 28 have a higher median THC, though Purple Urkle’s own median rests on only 35 tests.5
What does Purple Urkle taste like?
Mostly grape, then berry, with earthy and skunky notes.1,2,4
What terpenes are in Purple Urkle?
Our lab data cannot say: none of the 35 matched tests report individual terpene values. For flavor, people most often report grape and berry.4,5
Does Purple Urkle have CBD?
Almost none: 8 of the 27 tests that reported CBD found none, and the highest result was 0.29%.5
Does Purple Urkle make you sleepy?
It is known as a sleepy strain: Leafly lists sleepy as its top effect, and Weedmaps describes a relaxing high that ends in sleepiness.1,4
What are the parents of Purple Urkle?
Most sources name one parent, Mendocino Purps, and describe Purple Urkle as a phenotype selected from it.1,2,4
Is Purple Urkle the parent of Granddaddy Purple?
Accounts differ: Weedmaps and AllBud list Granddaddy Purple as Purple Urkle × Big Bud, while Leafly gives Mendo Purps × Skunk × Afghanistan.6,7,8
Why is Purple Urkle purple?
Anthocyanin pigments, which a plant needs the genes to make.9 Temperature matters too: in a 2025 study of another purple line, plants kept at a steady 8 °C or 15 °C made the most anthocyanin, while swings between 22 °C and 4 °C did not match them.10
Is it Purple Urkle or Purple Urkel?
Both spellings are used. Leafly, Weedmaps and AllBud write Purple Urkle, and SeedFinder’s genealogy for one seed version uses Purple Urkel; our lab and store counts include both.1,2,3,4,5,11
How long does Purple Urkle take to flower?
About 7–9 weeks indoors for seed versions, according to breeders (55–64 days where they count in days); Leafly shows the same 7–9 week band.1,3,12,13
Where can I find Purple Urkle?
In few places: on Oct 3, 2026, 34 stores and deliveries listed it on Weedmaps across 27 US markets, the most of them around Los Angeles (see where to find it).11
