Growing
Growing Purple Urkle: flowering time, yield and breeder specs
Breeders give seed versions of Purple Urkle about 7–9 weeks of flowering indoors, or 55–64 days where they count in days, and Leafly shows the same 7–9 week band. A commercial grower told Westword it wants heavier feeding and cooler temperatures, and CannaConnection says cold helps bring out its purple color.1,2,3,4,5,6,7

What the plant is like
Accounts of its shape differ. AllBud describes a typical indica, shorter, thicker and bushier, that does better indoors than out, while United Cannabis Seeds describes it as tall for an indica.4,10
The flowers are dense and dark. Weedmaps describes buds shading from deep green to violet and dark purple under a thick coat of trichomes, and Westword described dark purple calyxes with a velvety look, patches of green and rust-orange pistils.6,9
What to watch for
Feeding and temperature. A commercial grower told Westword it needs cooler temperatures and a heavier feeding schedule and will smell bad without them, and a home grower said they usually harvest in under 60 days. Weedmaps recommends it for intermediate growers who can manage nutrition and environment.6,9
Getting the purple
The color comes from anthocyanins, pigments a plant can only make if it has the genes for them. Leafly names Purple Urkle among strains known for purple color, and notes that a purple plant exposed to cold may produce less THC.11
Cool temperatures can help, within limits. In a 2025 study of another purple cannabis line, anthocyanin peaked in plants held at a constant 8 °C or 15 °C and was lower at 0.5 °C and 22 °C, and plants alternating between 22 °C and 4 °C did not reach the levels of plants kept steadily cool.12 CannaConnection’s profile, which lists Pyramid Seeds as the breeder, says cold temperatures help bring out its purple hues.7
Seeds and the law in the US
Under the amended federal definition of hemp, viable seeds from cannabis plants above 0.3% total THC, including THCA, are not hemp.13 Congress delayed that exclusion, with most of the new definition, from Nov 12 to Dec 11, 2026; only the exclusion of products with cannabinoids the plant cannot produce naturally starts on Nov 12.14 Home cultivation rules are set by each state. This site does not sell seeds.
